Day 1 Coaching Tip

Today’s Topic – How to create Topspin

– The Swing and Contact Point

Lots of players struggle with topspin

Players ask me on a weekday basis about too spin and why can’t I get top spin. The topspin forehand is one of the most important shots in Tennis. Nearly every Pro player hits with Spin.

( Follow this simple tip )

Grip = Semi Western

It’s best not to have a massive backswing.Just turn your shoulders to the side. Let your racket drop down at waist height and get your racket to come over the back of the ball. The faster you swing at contact then the more spin you get. Contact out in front is key.

Get out on court and give it a go.

Motivation

Day 1 Positive Mind set

Do you struggle to get motivated?

I am motivated every day. I have many ways to get motivated. I love to get out on court and hit lots of balls. The only way to improve is by hitting and hitting. I also watch my favourite players and spend a lot of time observing every detail of the shots. As a player and as a coach. I get to learn new skills and get to go out on court and practice. I get inspired by so many players and moments. Pushes me to improve.

Motivation

The only way to Improve is by practicing and hitting lots and lots of Tennis Balls

For me I get motivated by going on court every day and developing my skills. It’s very exciting going on court and practicing. New day new challenge.

Double handed Backhand

Final Tip of 2017

Players ask me why they need to follow through over the shoulder. The follow through is a very important part of the groundstroke. The Saying is do a low to high swing.

Coaching Tip

Once you have contacted the ball you need to keep the momentum going and get the racket over your shoulder. Aim to get your non dominant shoulder pointing forwards. The but of the racket will be facing forward.

Tip 2 Backhand Contact Point

Step 2

Do you feel close to the ball?

Do you feel like your hitting the ball late ?

The best players all get caught up and hit the ball behind them or late.

The most important element of the backhand is the contact point.

( Tip ) here is how to find your contact Contacting the ball out to the side at waist height is so important. If you get too close you will lose power and control.

A good exercise to do is stand still side ways on with your racket back to the side. Drop the ball and just push the ball forward. Don’t need power till you got control and feel your hitting the ball in-front of your body. I will be posting a video / Photo later about the contact point.
